NYC Cosplayers: What do you do when there isn't a convention going on?

The reason I ask is because I see this board as a great resource for local cosplayers and photographers (like myself) to get together. Personally, I think my skills could use some work, but why wait for NYAF to build those skills when I could be doing that now, while the sun is still shining brilliantly? I want my NYAF pics to be outstanding but I can only do that with practice. For Cosplayers, it's a free photo op, for me anyway. I don't charge for pictures. It's such a beatiful...

The New York Asian Film Festival just wrapped up earlier in the week, but that doesn't mean cinephiles can go back to sleep -- as the Japan Society's Japan Cuts Film Festival is just starting up and continuing on until July 13.

Well here the festival is a few distance away like 2 months to go. So I was wondering is there any reccomended places for an otaku to hand out around NYC to at least curved the wait for NYAF a bit or to just generally have a good time.
